Caught up in the Will Kassouf madness was an improbable story at the 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP).
Yong Han, thanks largely to the attention given to the polarizing Kassouf, who busted in 33rd place, ran deep in the Main Event for the second consecutive year. That alone is noteworthy, but his story becomes newsworthy given his placement in the tournament.

It's a shame the @OldTakesExposed account wasn't around in 2014 because Newhouse's prediction was dead wrong. He finished ninth again that year, a $730,725 payday, one of the most impressive — and improbable — accomplishments in poker history.
Han didn't reach the final table in consecutive years, but he did run deep in 2024 and 2025, finishing in 59th place each time. He earned $160,000 last year and made it to Day 7. This year, he collected $165,000 and was eliminated late on Day 6.
Han's run is even more impressive and improbable when you consider he'd never entered the WSOP Main Event prior to 2024, and he only has around $100,000 in additional live tournament cashes dating back to 2008, according to The Hendon Mob.
The poker player from California has six career World Series of Poker cashes. He won a $250 No-Limit Hold'em tournament in March at Commerce Casino in Los Angeles for $10,315, his only five-figure score outside of the WSOP Main Event.
The 2025 WSOP Main Event continues Sunday with Day 8, and it won't conclude until a final table has been achieved.
