With a prison complex & a limestone quarry, Rummu grew into a major industrial hub over time. Convicted criminals & political prisoners were housed in Rummu Prison during the 1940s Soviet construction, and they were made to labor in the adjacent quarry, which grew to be one of Estonia's biggest.
