Phil Ivey WSOP Poker

Michael Mizrachi winning the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event and receiving a special exemption for Poker Hall of Fame induction isn't the major news story on the final day of the series. Poker legend Phil Ivey could close out his summer on Wednesday with his 12th WSOP bracelet.

The Poker Hall of Famer has reached the final table in Event #98: $25,000 High Roller H.O.R.S.E., and he's already locked up at least $149,643 in the 150-entrant tournament. But he's eyeing a win and to get to within five of Phil Hellmuth's bracelet record.

Will Ivey Take it Down?

Ivey entered the final table, his fourth of the summer, fourth in chips out of 14 remaining players. He'd battle through an average stack as players began to bust on Day 3.

But by the time the tournament had dwindled to its final seven, just after Chris Hunichen's elimination (eighth place for $90,110), he'd become the short stack. Ivey would, however, double through Ryan Miller in seven card stud.

Miller would get some chips back shortly after by eliminating Poker Hall of Famer John Hennigan in sixth place ($114,350). Ivey, at the time of publishing, was sixth in chips out of six remaining players, and he was quite a ways behind the next shortest stack — Brian Rast.

But Ivey is always capable of rallying to win any tournament. Poker fans can follow the action right here at PokerNews. A winner will be crowned before the day concludes.

PREVIOUS:Through strategic timing of their melds, minimizing unmelded cards, and concentrating on creating high-value melds, players can increase their chances of winning the game and maximizing their score. There are many different types of rummy, and each has its own set of rules and tactics. For any serious player, knowing the distinctions between Indian Rummy, Gin Rummy, and even Kalooki is crucial. New features like wild cards, particular scoring schemes, or special melding requirements may be added in each variation, which can drastically change the dynamics of the game. In Gin Rummy, for example, players strive for "knocking" when they think they have made enough legitimate melds while maintaining their deadwood, or unmelded cards, below a specific point threshold. Unlike traditional Rummy, where players may concentrate more on creating sets & sequences without as much attention to deadwood management, this calls for a different strategic approach.NEXT:For instance, taking advantage of an opponent's discarding of a card that completes a set or sequence for you can increase your chances of winning. Also, by strategically modifying their own discards, players should take the initiative to open doors for themselves. Players can limit opponents' options and create favorable conditions for themselves by discarding cards that are less likely to help them and keeping those that might help them form melds. Being proactive necessitates knowing one's own hand as well as the tactics and tendencies of one's opponents. The rules and tactics used in each of the many variations of rummy can affect the dynamics of movement. Unlike Indian Rummy, where players have more freedom to draw from both the stockpile & discard pile, Gin Rummy players must take a different strategy in order to form melds while minimizing deadwood points.
