Share on Twitter Share on Facebook 3 min readThe debate over whether online poker cheaters should also be banned from live events has been heating up in the poker community. PartyPoker, which sees its brand new live tour kick off this month, has now made its stance on the issue crystal clear: players caught cheating online will not be welcome at their live events either.
In a post on their website, Juha Pasanen, Head of Gaming Integrity, said PartyPoker had long prioritized game integrity, implementing a zero-tolerance policy against players who seek unfair advantages.
In 2022, the company formally announced its approach to weeding out bad actors from the game, introducing what they call the "poker blacklist." This policy ensures that individuals who have been banned for cheating online will not be allowed to participate in PartyPoker’s live tournaments.
The reasoning behind this initiative is straightforward: poker should be a fair and honest game, whether played on the virtual felt or in a live setting. With PartyPoker sending over 1,000 players to live events through various promotions and satellites, the company believes it would be unfair to allow known cheaters to compete against legitimate players.

PartyPoker is not alone in this pursuit. Other operators have recently begun discussing stricter measures to combat cheating in poker. The company has even floated the idea of a global poker blacklist, where players banned for cheating on one platform would be prohibited from playing on any other site or live event. However, due to regulatory and logistical challenges, implementing such a system remains a difficult task.
Despite these hurdles, PartyPoker remains committed to leading the conversation on the issue and advocating for a universal stance against cheating in poker.
To uphold fair play, PartyPoker has continued to invest in its Game Integrity team, which actively monitors for a range of violations, including:
Since implementing these measures, over 2,500 accounts have been permanently banned from PartyPoker, with more than $2.3 million in confiscated funds redistributed to honest players.
While PartyPoker does not expect players to police the games themselves, they continue to encourage reports from the community. Any suspicious activity flagged by players is investigated, and PartyPoker promises to provide feedback on the outcome of these reports.
